I’m Erin Walker, the founder and writer behind Calorie Deficit.
How it started
I began paying attention to food because I had questions about my own body.
When I was younger, I dealt with bloating, stomach trouble, foods that seemed to disagree with me, and frustration about my weight.
I also had concerns about my thyroid. I read everything I could find, tried to make sense of labels, and changed my mind more than once as I learned more.
What you’ll find here
If you’ve ever searched for one clear answer and come away with ten conflicting ones, I understand.
I started this site for people in that position. Here, I write about calorie deficits, everyday nutrition, and the choices people make in grocery stores and kitchens.
That includes comparing foods, understanding serving sizes, finding satisfying ways to get enough protein, and looking past claims on the front of a package.
How I approach nutrition
My own experience often gives me the question for an article. It doesn’t supply the answer for everyone.
I check the information I share against reliable sources, explain when the evidence is uncertain, and tell you when a rule I once believed turned out to be too simple.
I don’t think you need to feel guilty about a food to learn something useful about it.
I’m not a physician or a registered dietitian, and Calorie Deficit does not provide personal medical advice. Digestive symptoms, suspected intolerances, thyroid concerns, and other health issues deserve individual attention. If an article raises a question about your own symptoms or treatment, please discuss it with your doctor or a registered dietitian.
I hope this site helps you ask better questions, read food information with more confidence, and find an approach to eating that makes sense in your life.
